#c64 Accolade's Hardball!

I was looking for new games to play when I stumbled upon Hardball! I had completely forgotten about this game and haven't played it in over 20 years. It was one of my favorites as a kid. I remember back then thinking, "How could graphics get better than this!?" Ha!

  1. Hey! I loved this game beyond belief when I was a kid. Actually this is the one I remember best - I got it for Christmas one year (I was maybe 11 or 12) and our area of town lost power from Christmas eve until Boxing day so I couldn't even play it. I still remember eating Christmas spaghetti heated on a Coleman stove reading the manual over and over. That was weird.

BTW - been following your blog for a couple of weeks & really enjoying it. I just picked up another C64 a couple of weeks ago but haven't found my box of disks yet, they're in an attic somewhere...!

    Cheers!

  2. That's a great story! I have a similar one -- I received F-19 Stealth Fighter for Christmas for my 64. I put it in the drive for the very first time and the power supply popped. I had to wait a month to get a new one and I just sat there reading the manual, just like you! Ha!

I'm eager to hear about all of the memories that come from the box in the attic.

  3. I played the crap out of this, as well. I can always remember the giddy thrill of seeing it briefly in The Princess Bride (even though they screwed with the sounds).

  4. It brought back a lot of great memories. I've played about two games all the way through -- playing defense is fun and easy enough, but on offense I can't seem to hit the ball for the life of me. I guess I will keep trying, but the scores are a bit embarrassing.

  5. Ha! Nice one. I'm really hoping I didn't give away the best disks... we'll see!

Seems to me there was a trick to the offense. Certain spots in the order were always power hitters so they could hit home runs like crazy. (Actually I think one of the power hitters might have even been named Bautista oddly enough...!) Anyway, a definite classic. Accolade did great sports games.

And I never noticed it was in Princess Bride! That's awesome.
